Project 2: Poster Design & Digital Imagine

INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 2A: DOUBLE EXPOSURE

  • Exercise 1: Follow tutorial

We must first watch the double exposure tutorial video and download the required images. Then, we will follow the steps in the video to create a work that is the same as the demonstration.

I followed the steps in the video to complete this exercise, here are the results of the double exposure practice.

  •  Exercise 2: Your own version Double Exposure portrait

In this part, we will use our own portraits and other images to create our own double exposure effects. To complete this assignment, I found a photo I took previously in my album and searched online for a photo of a flowering tree.

First, I processed my photos by using the selection and masking feature to carefully create a clipping mask.

Then I added the flower materials and adjusted the overall color. Also add a background color.

Finally, I added some materials around to enrich the details. The double exposure photo was completed.

PROJECT 2B: POSTER DESIGN

Student are required to create a poster design using elements of photography, typography and vector graphics.

PART 1: WEEK 6

1.Research about your topic
  • Study and gather all related information about your topic.

MOOD BOARD

Figure 2.1 Mood board

  • Write a summary about your topic
ThemeRenewal of life: Return Contemplate, human beings' relationship with all things.

Category: Magic Lock Screen

Title: Fragrance Under the Moon

Summary of your design concept:

Blossom Between Worlds is a Mucha-inspired illustration that celebrates the quiet beauty of nature and the human soul.
A woman in red stands among blooming flowers, butterflies, and birds.
Her calm expression reflects the peace we find when we connect with the natural world.
The soft colors and flowing lines echo the Art Nouveau style, bringing harmony and life into the design.

PART 2: (WEEK 7)

 2. Define your concept

Mucha's painting style is very unique. He is skilled at painting women and flowers, using smooth and gorgeous lines to outline them, with classical and bright colors that do not lose their softness.

I created a total of two drafts; the first version was done using Procreate, and the second version involved directly importing the photo materials into Photoshop for preliminary collage.

  • Sketch your mock up poster.

PART 3: WEEK 8
  • Draft the digital poster based on your sketches.
  • Develop the composition techniques using Digital Photography/ Photo Imaging.
  • Apply textures & effects if necessary.
  • Finalize your design with color correction (Adjustment Layer)

I first used the pen tool to draw the background and combined the colors of the main character and the classic color palette of Mucha for my poster.

At the same time, I adjusted the colors of the characters and added a pearlescent effect, giving the image the texture of an oil painting.

I used the following materials to create my poster, some of which are from content I usually shoot, and some are from public sources.

Figure 2.5  Materials

Then I started my practice in Photoshop, collaging these materials and the main character onto the background.

In particular, I have applied bold outlines to most of the materials in the poster. I want to reflect the collage texture found in the Mucha's  style.

The following is a poster that I created.

I showed the poster I had made to the professor and asked for advice. The professor suggested that I enlarge the subject so that she occupies a larger proportion of the picture. So I made adjustments to the composition.

This is a 6000pt ×6000pt size version of the folding screen:

And 3000pt × 6000pt versions with vertical screens:

SUMMARY:

Blossom Between Worlds draws inspiration from the poster style of Alphonse Mucha.
I used soft pastel colors, elegant curves, and a balanced layout to create a gentle, dreamlike atmosphere.
At the center is a graceful woman in red, holding fresh flowers close to her heart.
She stands surrounded by birds, blossoms, and butterflies—symbols of life, freedom, and natural grace.
The circular frame and architectural borders help guide the viewer’s eye, while the detailed floral elements bring a sense of movement and quiet joy.
The artwork reflects a moment where humanity meets nature—not in conflict, but in harmony.
Through this piece, I want to show how beauty can bloom softly, even between different worlds.

REFLECTIONS
PROJECT 2A: DOUBLE EXPOSURE
Double exposure is a very interesting photographic technique that gives images a dreamy, ethereal, and mysterious atmosphere. I find it both creative and expressive. In my opinion, double exposure really tests my ability to work with details. To make the final image look seamless and visually convincing, I need to carefully adjust the layering, blending, and positioning of elements. Every small decision—like contrast, opacity, and alignment—can affect the overall outcome. This process helped me realize the importance of patience and precision in design. I enjoyed the challenge and hope to explore more creative possibilities with this technique in the future.

PROJECT 2B: POSTER DESIGN
I have a strong interest in this task, as it builds on the electronic collage techniques we practiced earlier. For this project, we explored the content direction based on the design competition hosted on the official Honor website.
I chose a nature-inspired theme because it immediately reminded me of Alphonse Mucha’s poster illustration style. To reflect that influence, I processed my own photographs in Photoshop, turning them into line art illustrations—a key feature in Mucha’s work.I think this is a highly comprehensive project. It tests our ability to stay focused on the theme, challenges our personal aesthetics and visual insights, and also requires solid Photoshop skills. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with my final result and see this as a valuable step forward. I hope to do even better in future projects.
