LecturesPOSTER DESIGN
The fundamental principles of design are: Emphasis, Balance and Alignment, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, Movement and White Space.
The 7 principles of poster design:
- EMPHASIS
The first of the 7 design principles is emphasis, referring to the focal point of a design and the order of importance of each element within a design.
- BALANCE &ALIGENMENT
Symmetry balances equal elements; asymmetry balances contrast to create visual equilibrium.
- CONTRAST
Contrast creates space and difference between elements in your design.
- REPETITION
Repeating a limited set of strong typefaces or colors helps unify and strengthen your design. When a style appears multiple times, it becomes a deliberate motif rather than a mistake.
- PROPORTION
Proportion is the visual size and weight of elements and how they relate. It's often more effective to design in sections rather than all at once.
- MOVEMENT
Movement guides the viewer’s eye and shapes the narrative of your design.
- WHITE SPACE
White space is what you don’t add—it gives your design room to breathe and can elevate it from mediocre to great.

Title: Echoes of Life
Summary of your design concept:
This piece is inspired by the flowing elegance of Alphonse Mucha’s art and centers around the theme “Hymn of All Living Things.”
At the heart of the design is a nature spirit, dressed in richly detailed clothing that mixes natural symbols with ornate textures. Her calm gaze and intricate headpiece give her a quiet, timeless strength, while the layers of fabric and bold colors reflect the richness and energy of life.
Surrounding her are floral and organic patterns—symbols of growth and connection—drawn in soft lines, golden tones, and rhythmic shapes.
By blending Mucha’s graceful style with the beauty of all living things, this work honors the deep connections in nature, feminine strength, and the quiet magic found in life itself.
