REFLECTION
Experience
This semester, I studied Advanced Typography and further developed the foundation I built in previous typography courses. Compared to earlier modules, this course placed greater emphasis on independent thinking and design judgment. At the beginning, I lacked confidence in my ideas, but through continuous practice and feedback, I gradually learned to trust my design process. These tasks helped me gain a deeper understanding of typography, especially in exploring ideas while still following design rules. I also began to experiment with new styles and incorporate my own ideas into the designs. The guidance from Mr. Vinod encouraged me to reflect on my work and continuously improve its overall quality.
Observations
I realized that typography requires patience and close attention to detail. Many issues in my work were not caused by the concept itself, but by small things like letter spacing, line spacing, or alignment—and this has always been one of my weaker areas since I started learning layout. This semester taught me to slow down and check each step more carefully. Once the details were handled properly, the overall result improved a lot.
In the past, after finishing a task, my only thought was, “I probably met the teacher’s requirements, right?” I didn’t get much feedback that truly helped me improve. But during Advanced Typography this semester, I adjusted my workflow. Before I start making something, I now spend more time looking at strong examples and good references. That way, after I complete a design, I can compare my work with professional designs and clearly see the gap between us. I think this is really helpful for making progress.
Findings
Through this module, I found that typography is not just a supporting element in design, but a core tool for communication. Type choices can influence how information is perceived, understood, and felt by the audience. This made me more aware of the responsibility behind typographic decisions, especially when typography itself becomes the main visual focus. I now see typography as something that carries meaning, not just form.
